Pre-K and Kindergarten

Picture1Three year-old Preschool

Our three-year old program provides children with a healthy, encouraging, and loving atmosphere in which to introduce them to the school environment.  Our goal is to make their introduction to school a positive one, which will instill in them a love for lifelong learning.

Children learn how to participate in large and small group activities, follow directions, sing songs, listen to stories, paint, color, and use scissors.  They will learn to recognize their names, identify colors and shapes, count to at least ten, recognize upper case letters, and recite simple poems.

While the curriculum focuses on the development of fine and gross motor skills, the Bible and Biblical concepts are integrated throughout all activities.  Children learn how to share, take turns, make friends, use manners, and pray.

Four year-old Preschool

Our program for four year-olds is designed to prepare children for a successful transition into Kindergarten.  Children grow through a comprehensive program that helps them learn and explore new concepts.

The Letter People Reading Readiness program is a phonics-based curriculum that parallels children’s natural learning pattern.  Children get to know and recognize letters and sounds through their interaction with 26 Letter People Puppets.  They begin to sound out words and can identify rhyming words and similar sounds effectively.   They will also learn to write their first name and copy other letters.

In mathematics, several basic concepts are taught.  These include sorting and classifying, patterns, measurement, graphing, and number concepts.  By the end of the school year students should be able to recognize, create sets,  print numerals 1-10, and count to at least 10.

With music, storytelling, craft time, and many other hands-on activities, children are given a firm foundation to succeed at Kindergarten and beyond.

Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten Program is designed to nurture the heart, soul, and mind of our students, and includes lessons in Bible, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.   Whether you choose our half-day program or our full-day program, your child will receive the best academic training, solid spiritual values, and  socialization skills.

Language Arts

The Language Arts Program at Hillcrest teaches basic reading skills using an intensive phonics approach.  Students are taught to read with a systematic step by step reading plan based upon the sounds of each letter.  This gives students a solid foundation for developing exceptional reading skills.

Math

Kindergartners learn to count and recognize numbers up to 100.  Addition concepts are taught through the sum of 10, and subtraction concepts are introduced as well.  Students learn to tell time, work with money,  and use basic measuring skills.

Science and Social Studies

Our Kindergarten program includes science enrichment programs in six focal areas:  the five senses, weather, seasons, plants, animals, and the seashore.  Social Studies includes lessons in American History, Geography, and Community Service.

Both programs, half-day, and full-day prepare your child for a successful year in first grade!
